Aguascalientes Will Become the First City in Mexico to Use LoRa Network for the Industry

There are a little over forty universities en Aguascalientes, from which 10,800 professionals graduate each year.

Aguascalientes is one of the states with more engineers per capita, a statistic that favors its commitment to Industry 4.0, the dual education model, technification, industrialization, and the incorporation of new technologies in processes of different economic sectors.

Aiming at becoming a state that generates innovation projects in the field of Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0, the Department of Economic Development, SEDED, through the Institute for Knowledge Society Development, IDSCEA, will make Aguascalientes the first city to implement LoRa technology.

LoRa is a wide area network communication standard designed to allow low-powered devices to communicate with Internet-connected applications over long-range wireless connections.

SEDEC will deploy a “semi-private” network of about 120 nodes that will be operated by a local company starting in June. It will be available to universities, entrepreneurs, and companies that want to create solutions through this technology.

LoRa will have state coverage. This will not only allow for the development of solutions for the city, but also for the agricultural sector, where precision farming and cattle monitoring will become a reality.

The objective of this project is to position Aguascalientes as a technology services supplier. That is why SEDEC, apart from deploying LoRa, will launch a campaign to promote the network within different industrial sectors. It will also be issuing an announcement that funds will be made available for technology-based projects so that the infrastructure is best utilized.
